Ostro House

We were delighted to be commissioned by architectural practice Paper Igloo for two very special projects within their own self-built home.

Firstly we were asked to design & make new upholstery for some mid- century Danish dining chairs that had been inherited from within the family. Secondly we were asked to create a bespoke curtain to screen an open shelving system & wardrobe within the master bedroom.

This stunning contemporary home called for a design that complimented the statement shapes found within the building but also reflected its very unique and personal design to the owners.

The seat cushions pick out highlight colours from within the interior and incorporate the house name - Ostro into the design, simplifying the letters into graphic shapes that form the patchwork. The upholstery panels were made from a soft handle wool felt in rich striking colours that help to give the finished textiles a strong graphic look. Each seat cushion had its own unique arrangement, so each seat was different but complimentary.

The design was then carried across onto the linen appliqué curtain panels. The shapes were blown up in scale and mixed with other simple geometric shapes to create a repeating pattern that scatters across the base of the curtain. As the curtain is drawn across to the conceal the shelving, two origami style birds fly out of the pattern. Similar colours of yellow, teal and grey were also used in the curtain but in softer tones that compliment the interior and create a more calming feel.
